To Upgrade the Firmware to V3.4: Windows Vista 1.Do not plug in the Z9 just yet, but make sure that it is turned off and that there are no lights flashing on the unit. Have the USB cable nearby. Go to our website, www.myblueant.com 2.Under Products select the Z9. 3.On the Z9 page you will see a link that says: “Visit the Z9 Microsite – Click here”. Click on that link 4.After the intro has finished look for the option that is flashing on the top of the screen that says, “New BlueAnt Z9 Firmware v3.4 released – Click here”, and click on it with the left mouse button. (it’s above the Support option) 5.A new page will open, left click on the mouse on the option that says “Next, Download the following 6mb zip file and unzip to your PC> CLICK HERE” 6.Select Open when asked what you want to do with the file. There may be a short delay while the file opens. 7.A window will be displayed containing a file called Z9_Upgrade. This is a folder whose contents are compressed to make it smaller, so the next step is to Unzip it. Left click once on the Z9_Upgrade folder to highlight it. Select File (top left corner of the screen) and then Extract All. 8.“Files will be extracted to this folder” will be highlighted. Left click on Browse. 9.Left click once on the mouse on the Desktop option at the top of the list. Left click once on the OK option. 10.Left click once on the mouse on Extract. A screen displaying copying will appear. 11. It is best to close down any other programs that are currently running, such as the internet, before proceeding as it will be easier to conduct the next steps with less clutter. To do this left click on the X on the top right corner of the screen until you get back to your desktop. 12.Locate the Z9 Upgrade folder on your Desk top and double left click on it to open it. There will be six files inside the folder. Place the cursor over the file that says csrbc01.inf and Right click on the mouse button. Select Install from the menu that appears by left clicking the mouse button on it. 13.The computer may issue a security warning at this point. This is because it was not programmed by Microsoft and is nothing to worry about. Select Open, the screen will momentarily flash and will then appear to have done nothing. You may also need to select Continue if the computer questions the files source. When it has finished installing (usually within 5 seconds) close the Upgrade folder down by click on the X on the upper right corner of the screen. 14.Left click on the Windows Logo on the bottom left corner of the screen. Left click on the option that says Computer. 15.Left click on the mouse on System Properties (upper middle of the window) then select Device Manager (left corner of the window). 16.Left click on the mouse on Continue if you get this option. A new window will appear with a list of different hardware that is on your machine. Leave this window open. 17.At this point get the Z9 (making sure that it is still off) and press and hold the Volume Up button (+). Keep the volume Up button pressed and connect the Z9 and USB to the computer. Ensure a red light appears on the Z9 when the connection is complete. This should stay lit up for the period of the upgrade. After about 15 seconds of the Z9 being plugged in let go of the volume button. (If the light did not stay on, unplug the USB, make sure you are pressing the Volume up button and not the volume down button and re-insert back into the PC. If the light remains off try in a different USB hub. It is vital you are pressing the button before the cable is plugged in, and pressure only released on the button 15 seconds after plugging it in.) 18.Look at the Device manager screen of the computer, you should see an option that says Bluetooth Radio at the top of the Device manager list in bold (on some computers this option will appear slightly differently eg Blutooth, Bluetooth Manager, Bluetooth Device). Left click on the + option to the left of this to expand the list. 19.On 99% of machines the option Generic Bluetooth Device (or Radio) will be listed. (On occasions this same option will appear by the name Bluetooth device, USB Device or Unknown device) Right click on this option and select Update Driver Software. 20.A wizard to upgrade new hardware will appear. Select Run by left clicking the mouse button on this option. Select Allow. 28.The Next option will currently be in Gray. Press and hold the Volume Up key (+) once more on the Z9 and re-attach this to the computer by plugging in the USB cable. Keep the Volume key pressed until the Next option is in bold, when you can then let go. (the red light will remain on the headset) 29.Select Next. 30.You will be asked to locate the Upgrade file, Select the Browse option. There will only be one file to choose from, BMH290_V4345_s3_full_20071224.dfu, double click on this option with the left mouse button and then select Next. 31.The upgrade will begin to start. After 2 minutes you should get an Upgrade was successful message prompting you to unplug the USB and hit finish. Do this and skip to step 45. 32.If the upgrade did not complete you will get an error appear and a message displaying Upgrade failed. DO NOT CLICK ON FINISH. Select Next. 40.Select Continue if you receive the warning that the drivers have not passed Windows testing. 41.Wait for the files to finish transferring and then select Close. 42.Close the Device Manager (click on the X on the top right of the window). Click Finish below the error message that appeared after trying the upgrade. Go back to the Z9_Upgrade folder on the desktop and double click on the left mouse button. DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB CABLE THIS TIME 43.Highlight the BlueAnt DFU (upgrade tool) and double click on the left mouse button. Select Run by left clicking the mouse button on this option. 44.Select Next. You will be asked to locate the Upgrade file, Select the Browse option. There will only be one file to choose from, BMH290_V4346_s3_full_20080421.dfu, double click on this option with the left mouse button and then select Next. 45.The upgrade will begin again, generally from the same point that it had failed, and should complete this time. Wait for the message stating the upgrade was successful and unplug the usb cable. 46.Once the upgrade is complete you need to delete the current Z9 pairing from your cell phone. Once this has been done reset the phone by removing the battery from it while it is still on or, if using a pda, by placing the stylus in the reset hole. When the phone has reloaded go to the Bluetooth menu. Turn on the Z9, it will automatically go into pairing mode (flashing a continuous, Rapid Blue). Search from the phone for a Bluetooth device, the Z9 should be found. If asked for the pin code it is 0000. Some phones such as the Motorola Q and Treo 680 may still display the previous version of firmware. If this happens delete the Z9 again, reset the phone and repair. Pairing with a different phone momentarily will verify if the upgrade was successful or not.
