Looks like the proposed Biogas plant in Elmira is not the only one causing an uproar. The Record reports that Erin Brockovich spoke out against a 975 MegaWatt gas-fired electrical generating station proposed for a residential area in Oakville.
“I don’t want a big power plant in my backyard either, on top of my house — I’d have a fit,” Brockovich said.
Oakville residents consider the three kilometre distance from their homes and schools to be too close.
Residents fear an accidental explosion at the site, located near railway lines and major roads, could be devastating.
A blast at a Connecticut power plant in February killed six workers. That plant was separated from communities by a river and buffer zones.
I wonder if Erin Brockovich could be persuaded to speak at our next BFCC meeting…

My dad has been writing a book precisely on point with this blog, I have emailed him the web address so perhaps he could pick up a couple pointers. Fantastic Job.
Sorry, one more comment if I may. The province has legislation that says they cannot build a “10MW” Wind Turbine there but nothing to say you can’t build a 900+MW Gas Power Plant!
Hi Bob, it would be a little more acceptable at 3km(1500m). The problem is that it’s only 60metres from an office building, 300m from a school yard, and 400m from the nearest home. Within 3km though there is something like 11,000 homes and over a dozen schools. Something wrong with that picture.
