Oakville gas plant under fire

Looks like the proposed Biogas plant in Elmira is not the only one causing an uproar. The Record reports that Erin Brockovich spoke out against a 975 MegaWatt gas-fired electrical generating station proposed for a residential area in Oakville.

“I don’t want a big power plant in my backyard either, on top of my house — I’d have a fit,” Brockovich said.

Oakville residents consider the three kilometre distance from their homes and schools to be too close.

Residents fear an accidental explosion at the site, located near railway lines and major roads, could be devastating.

A blast at a Connecticut power plant in February killed six workers. That plant was separated from communities by a river and buffer zones.

I wonder if Erin Brockovich could be persuaded to speak at our next BFCC meeting…

Re: [stopthestink] letter from Pendergast

Don,
That letter is becoming pretty familiar. Most of the people who wrote to Ms. Pendergast have received the same reply. I thought the other correspondance you received was much more promising and it would be good to talk to our MPP face to face on this.
Thanks
Ed

[stopthestink] Reminder of Meeting Wednesday Sept 22

This is just a quick note to remind everyone that we are having a meeting tommorrow evening at 6:30 at the Woolwich Memorial Center. Proponents of Bio-En are presenting their side of the story followed by members of the Bio Fuel Citizens Committee presenting ours. There will be a question and answer time following the presentations. This should be a very informative evening.

I’ve attached the poster that was prepared for this event which you may have seen around town. I hope to see everyone there along with many friends and neighbours.

Thanks
Ed Speers

Re: [stopthestink] Fwd: Bio-En proposal

Thanks Don,  I am going to address some of Mr. Martin’s comments about the difficulty in dealing with Elmira residents when we have the meeting on Wednesday.

Re: [stopthestink] Bio Gas facility in Elmira

It doesn’t come close to being a proposal, but I found this snippet:

http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTA1NjUy&statusId=MTU4MzIx

Interesting bits: “[…] facility that will process 750 tonnes per day
of organics including kitchen and food processing wastes, livestock
manure, energy crops, fats, oils and greases into biogas.”

And: “[…] the hours of operation are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week”

Re: [stopthestink] Bio Gas facility in Elmira

Hi Mary

Have you found the Bio-en proposal on the MOE website? I’d sure like
to get my hands on that document.
